Workload Assessment

Measuring the effort a task demands of people over time, not just its speed.

What is Workload Assessment?

Measuring the effort a task demands of people over time, not just its speed.

What you learn

A faster task can still take more effort. Measure the effort too.

When it helps

people finish tasks quickly but feel exhausted, or a faster workflow may be harder to sustain.

Use it at work

  1. Measure time and effort together.
  2. Ask people to rate their effort after real work, using a short standard scale.
  3. Watch for errors, breaks and sick days over weeks.
  4. Change the work where effort is high.

Your output

When you measure a workflow, add one effort measure, such as a short rating after the task, next to speed and success.

Watch for

Measuring only speed and completion.
