Feedback Design

What is Feedback Design?

Showing people what happened after an action, right away and in words they understand.

What you learn

Every action needs a response people can see right away.

When it helps

an action already works, but its response is missing, late or too brief for people to notice.

Use it at work

  1. List each action people take.
  2. Respond within a moment: a light, a sound, a change or a message.
  3. Say what happened, in plain words.
  4. Show progress for anything that takes time.

Your output

Pick one action in your product. Check that people see a response within a second, and that it says what happened.

Watch for

Leaving an action with no visible response.
