Component Governance

Rules for adding, maintaining and retiring shared components, so teams can depend on them.

What is Component Governance?

Rules for adding, maintaining and retiring shared components, so teams can depend on them.

What you learn

Add to the shared library only what’s proven and owned.

When it helps

a shared library fills with overlapping parts, or nobody knows which components to trust.

Use it at work

  1. Set the conditions to join: proven need, accessibility and an owner.
  2. Review contributions on a regular schedule.
  3. Mark each component’s status: ready, in testing or retiring.
  4. Merge duplicates, and retire unused components.

Your output

Write the three conditions a component must meet to join your shared library, including a named owner.

Watch for

Adding every new component, or blocking all contributions.
