TRIZ Contradictions

A method for solving problems where improving one thing seems to make another worse.

What is TRIZ Contradictions?

A method for solving problems where improving one thing seems to make another worse.

What you learn

When two needs conflict, separate them in time, space or condition.

When it helps

a trade-off seems unavoidable, and the team is about to settle for a compromise.

Use it at work

  1. Write the two needs that conflict.
  2. Ask: can they be met at different times?
  3. Ask: can they be met in different places or parts?
  4. Ask: can they be met under different conditions?

Your output

When you face a trade-off, ask: can the two needs be met at different times, in different places or under different conditions?

Watch for
