Research Personas

What is Research Personas?

Profiles of distinct user groups, based on research into their goals and behavior.

What you learn

Base personas on differences in behavior that change the design.

When it helps

teams describe users by age or stereotype, or can’t agree who they’re designing for.

Use it at work

  1. Find the behaviors in your research that differ between groups.
  2. Keep only the differences that change the design.
  3. Write each persona around those behaviors and goals.
  4. Link each persona to the research behind it.

Your output

For each persona your team uses, write the research behind it and the design decision it changes. Retire any that changes none.

Watch for

Building personas on demographics and stereotypes.
