Evidence Confidence

Matching how strongly you state a claim to how strong the evidence is.

What is Evidence Confidence?

Matching how strongly you state a claim to how strong the evidence is.

What you learn

Make claims only as strong as the evidence allows.

When it helps

you need to judge how strongly a study or report supports a claim before using it in a decision.

Use it at work

  1. State the claim and the evidence behind it.
  2. Note how many people, from where, and by what method.
  3. Choose words that match: “suggests”, “shows” or “confirms”.
  4. Say what evidence would make the claim stronger.

Your output

Before your next presentation, label each claim with the evidence behind it. Weaken any claim that outruns it.

Watch for

Overclaiming from small or weak evidence.
